For most of US history, researchers have made outrageously
false statements that deny or deprecate Native American
writing. In this week’s readings and video, we have many
examples of sophisticated literature among ancient
Americans. Give examples of some of these writing systems.
How do you explain the centuries of falsehood? How do you
understand what was lost by Diego de Landa’s destroying so
many ancient Mayan codices?
