Marking criteria and standards

The criteria and standards for marking the assignment will be available from the “Case Study” link on
vUWS, but is also shown below. It shows what we will be looking for and what mark you will get if you reach certain levels. Use this to help
you in your preparation. The marking criteria focuses on three main areas:
1. The ability to identify and use relevant information to
support the points being made in the report.
2. The extent to which the report addresses the requirements ofthe question, including
structure and conclusions.
3. Clear presentation, with appropriate referencing and standard of English. The final mark is a total out of
30.

Application of accounting analysis tools
Weight 20% Poor selection oftools.
Significant calculation errors or unclear
presentation. Some appropriate selection oftools.
Minor calculation errors or inconsistent presentation. Appropriate selection oftools.
Possibly minor calculation errors but clear presentation. Good selection oftools.
Correct calculations and clear presentation.
Excellent selection oftools.
Correct calculations and very clear presentation.
Demonstrates critical analysis skills
Weight 30% Mostly
descriptive with little/no evidence of critical analysis. Satisfactory level of critical thinking, with some insights, but overly
descriptive in some areas. Demonstrates a more than satisfactory level of insightful, critical analysis. Insightful, critical thinking and
a high level of understanding clearly evident throughout. Application of knowledge clearly evident, and demonstrates an excellent level of
critical reflection.
Application of relevant information.
Weight 30% Overly descriptive and/or direct reproduction of material from other
sources. Demonstrates an adequate level of integration of concepts. Requires development and synthesis of concepts. Demonstrates
integration of some concepts, but occasionally lacking consistency. Demonstrates a high level of integration of concepts into own writing.
Excellent level of integration of concepts.
Clarity of expression
Weight 10% Poor communication ofideas due to careless writing and
lack of proof-reading. Some inconsistency in sentence structure. Clarity of expression could be enhanced by some revision. A satisfactory
standard of expression. Relatively clear expression ofideas. Consistent expression and clear expression ofideas. Comprehension enhanced
by excellent written expression and very clear expression ofideas.
Presentation
Weight 10% Guidelines for presentation not followed.
Poor structure, content not arranged in a logical order. Many spelling and/or grammar errors. Some presentation guidelines followed, but
structure and presentation could be improved. Too many spelling errors and/or poor grammar. In general well presented, with most ofthe
presentation guidelines followed. Few spelling and/or grammar errors. Very well presented work, with all presentation guidelines followed.
No spelling errors, minor grammatical errors. The group has submitted a well structured professional document. Exceptionally well
presented work. Superior grammar and spelling skills.
