Details of Assignment:
You have been hired as the security director of loss prevention for a national chain department store in your community. Formerly, the store used a contractual security firm to monitor shoplifting and employee theft. Management has decided not to renew the contract with the security firm due to many complaints of improper security methods used by security personnel.
The department store employed one uniform guard to patrol the parking lot, which has approximately 300 parking spaces, and one plain clothes officer to monitor the interior of the store for shoplifters and employee theft, and one officer to monitor the surveillance cameras. The store operates 24 hours a day. During the 11:00pm- 07:00am shift, there was one officer in the store to monitor the store for shoplifters and one officer to monitor the parking lot.
The store has numerous incidents of shoplifting over the last two months where at least ten shoplifters got away with merchandise, and four purse snatchings occurred to customers on the parking lot at different hours. There have also been reports of cashier drawers coming up short of money at the end of their shift. The cashiers are only monitored by the manager of the store. The business has lost several thousands of dollars over the last few months, and two customers are currently suing the store because they were assaulted and had their purses taken on the parking lot.
