Corporate Governance and Ethical Responsibility Research Paper

Dr. DoRight has recently been hired as the President of the “Universal Human Care Hospital”, where he oversees all departments with over 5,000 employees and over 20,000 patients at the medical facility. He has been provided with a broad set of duties and oversight of numerous departments, including business development, customer services, human resources, legal, patient advocacy, to name a few. He has managers in each department that he supervises and who work with him to address the needs of the various internal and external stakeholders of the hospital. Dr. DoRight discovers that some patients within the hospital have been dying as a result of a variety of illegal procedures by doctors and nurses, and negligent supervision and oversight on their part. This was brought to his attention in a few meetings and he told his Regional Director Compliance Manager and Executive Committee in January 2009. He was told by them that the matter would be investigated and they would report any findings to him as soon as possible. After two (2) years, there have been no results from the investigation and some patients are still passing away due to the negligent activities. He also answers to a board of trustees and interfaces with numerous community organizations and corporations who have various reasons for doing business with the hospital. Dr. DoRight continues to win awards for his leadership of the hospital and meeting business goals. He was recently named “Medical Business Executive of the Year” in 2011. Write a six to seven (6-7) page paper in which you: Determine at least three (3) different internal and external stakeholders that Dr. DoRight might have to deal with on a daily basis at the hospital. Compare and contrast potential conflicts of interest that may exist between  the internal and external stakeholders. Discuss whether Dr. DoRight has fulfilled his ethical duty by reporting the illegal procedures. Describe the deontology principle and apply it to the ethical dilemma that Dr. DoRight faces in this case. Describe the utilitarianism principle and apply it to the ethical dilemma Dr. Do Right faces in this case. Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements: Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions. Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required page length. The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are: Analyze employee rights to health and safety in the workplace. Use technology and information resources to research issues in law, ethics, and corporate governance. Write clearly and concisely about law, ethics, and corporate governance using proper writing mechanics.
Please be aware that each and every section of your paper should have a brief section heading – DO NOT write out the entire question over again – and contain in-text citations for the supporting authority you will use to prove your conclusions or course of action. In addition, any information you present from a source that is not credited will be determined to be plagiarism, and you will receive a 0 for this paper without any chance to rewrite it or have it considered for a grade.
The page requirement for this paper is 6-7 pages. I will accept more. I will NOT accept less. Therefore, with brief section headings, and no extra spacing anywhere throughout the paper, the text (double-spaced) should total a minimum of 6 pages not including the title page and references.
Tips for Assignment 3:
Q1 – Present 3 internal and 3 external stakeholders for a total of 6 separately identified stakeholders. Define what a stakeholder is in general, why it is important, and what impact it has on an organization. In answering the question specifically, examine why each identified group applies as a stakeholder, why it is considered internal or external, and the actual dealings Dr. DoRight might have with that group. This should provide you with ample opportunity for outside research.
Q2 – Each stakeholder group has a different focus or intent. Explain that focus or intent. Now, define what a conflict of interest is. Next, juxtapose the overriding intent of the internal stakeholders versus the external stakeholders. Finally, identify how and why there is an inherent conflict of interest present in this particular situation.
Q3 – Define ethics in general. Then attempt to define business ethics. Can they co-exist? What is the ethical dilemma at the heart of this case? Define the Deontology principle and the underlying basis behind its entire school of thought. What are its tenets? Now, apply it to the entirety of Dr. DoRight’s actions from beginning to end. Does your answer change if you are viewing his initial efforts separately from any subsequent actions or inaction?
Q4 – Follow the same format for Q4 as you did for Q3 by simply replacing Utilitarianism for Deontology. [Do not redefine ethics or business ethics, etc.] Simply apply the new theory here.
At this point, I will repeat the information I provided prior to Assignment 1 being due. The same applies here. Please follow these instructions.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING ASSIGNMENT 3:
This is a graduate-level class. Adequate research is required. It is unacceptable to hand in a paper that is purely speculative based on your opinion. This is a business law class. Your papers need to be conclusive, fact-based submissions grounded in academic or legal authority.
Any time you use a resource to gather information for your paper, you must list that resource in the References section of your paper and cite it appropriately when that particular information is used in the text. Not doing so is converting the work product of another author for your own use without providing for the proper credit due, and it is plagiarism. Any evidence of plagiarism in this class warrants a ZERO (0) grade for the paper at issue.
Therefore, if I do not see citations in the text, I will NOT consider your paper for a grade and you will receive a ZERO (0) for the Assignment without an opportunity to resubmit your work.
Assignment 3 requires 6-7 full pages of text (separate from the title and reference pages). Study APA-style formatting rules. Every page, including the title page, gets a running header to the top left (which is a shortened version of the title) and a page number (digits only) to the top right. Within the text, set off each question with a brief section heading; do not write out the entire question. Proofread your papers, or get help proofreading. Eliminate grammatical, sentence structure, and spelling errors. Finally, answer every aspect of the question asked in its entirety.
RESEARCH & WRITING GUIDELINES:
1. Understand the Assignment questions and requirements. Read the questions and gain an understanding of what is being asked.
2. Perform research. Go to the Resource Center Tab at the top of the course shell and access the Databases. Use EBSCOhost to find relevant articles. Or, go to your local campus Learning Resources Center where the LRC Manager can assist you, if needed.
3. Do NOT use non-academic sources, such as Wikipedia, About.com, online dictionaries, etc.
4. Present your paper in the form of a legally persuasive argument. For EACH question:
a. Provide the applicable law in the form of a statute or case law or legal article, etc.
b. Cite your source to provide authority for what you are saying.
c. Apply that law to the facts of the particular case as they pertain to the question being asked.
d. Draw a legally-supportable conclusion from this application.
e. Make sure your conclusion answers the question directly.
5. Please remember to provide authority in the form of a citation for every major point that supports your premise. Do not provide your opinion alone in a paragraph.
6. For that matter, single paragraph answers to questions almost never suffice as a sufficient response to the question being asked. Use your resources. Provide adequate information to address all aspects of the question. Show your knowledge.
7. Your foremost requirement is to answer the Assignment questions in full. This means answering every aspect of the question asked.
8. Provide brief headings for each question, but do not write out the entire question in the text of your paper.
9. Make sure that the resources you provide on your References page are cited throughout the text of the paper. If you have provided information in your paper, such as a legal conclusion, that is not common knowledge and that you discovered in one of your resources, it must be cited. Using someone else’s information and not providing the proper credit for it, thereby acting as if it is your own, is plagiarism…………….FOR MORE INFORMATION ON THIS TOPIC CLICK HERE
