ESSAY/CREATIVE PROJECT #1: BECOMING A PERSON/SELF -RELIANCE

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:

For your first major assignment, you are to select one of the options listed below and execute it according to the instructions given on this sheet. Be sure to tell your professor which option you are doing one week after receiving this sheet. All essays must include in-text citations and a Works Cited page, formatted according to the standards of the Modern Language Association (MLA).

OPTION 1: Write an essay that uses the literature we have studied in class, or literature you have read on your own, as a lens through which you think about some of the most important experiences you have had to go through in order to become the person you are today. You must check with me before you use any work of literature about “Becoming a Person” that we have not gone over in class. You must use at least two different readings in your essay. Be sure to follow the guidelines in your Instructions for Writing an Essay for Your Project portion of the Craft of Writing handout.

OPTION 2: Write an essay that uses the literature we have studied in class, or literature you have read on your own, as a lens through which you think about some of the most important experiences you have had to go through in order to become self-reliant. You must check with me before you use any work of literature about “Self-Reliance” that we have not discussed in class. You must use at least two different readings in your essay.
