accounting case report

Synopsis:
Danshui Plant No. 2 has a one-year contract with Apple Computer to assemble 200,000 units of the Apple iPhone 4 per month. Wentao Chen, manager of Danshui Plant No. 2, is anxious to speed up production to fulfill the Apple contract while at the same time generating a profit for the plant. The plant’s performance has not lived up to expectations; after three months of operations, the plant has not been able to assemble the expected 200,000 units in any month. Further, instead of earning the expected profit of $100,000 per month, the plant has experienced losses. A key issue relates to whether the reports presently being prepared provide sufficient information to properly evaluate the plant’s performance and to understand why performance is different than expected.
Assignment:
You have been hired as a consultant to help Chen understand some of the problems, and produce reports that evaluate the plant’s performance appropriately.
The report is to be written as a business case report (see D2L for various documents). It requires a cover page, introduction, body, conclusion, and appendices.
Students will have a maximum of five (5) pages, plus an additional five (5) pages of appendices available to present their analysis.
Note: this case does not ask you to prepare a situational analysis!
The questions at the end of the case should be answered in the content of your report.
