Urban Transportation

Assignment:

Based on course readings, please discuss how transportation has shaped cities during the 20th century.

What impacts have resulted from focusing our transportation system mainly on automobiles?

Please describe a sustainable transportation system.  What are the economic, environmental and social (equity) benefits of moving towards a sustainable transportation system?

Why is transportation an equity issue?

How can it become more just?

Our current transportation system is focused mainly on fossil fuels.  Why is this a problem and what are the options to move transport beyond oil?

Please discuss how you envision transportation changing over the next 50 – 100 years in American cities.
