MUSICAL SOURCES

Analyzing and comparing/contrasting musical sources.
First, choose one song from the Vietnam Ear and one present-day song that deals with the War on Terror. I have provided a list of songs below; if you would like to use a song that is not on the list please receive permission from me first.
Second, find the lyrics to your two songs. You can do this with a simple internet search. Listening to the song is not necessary; however, if possible you should try.
Third, use the UMUC online library to find one (1) scholarly article that relates to protest music. A scholarly article is one that appears in a scholarly journal or publication. Popular magazine articles will not count as an acceptable source.
Write an essay that compares and contrasts the two songs. To do this you will also have to briefly discuss the two time periods. See the questions below for specific details.
Your essay must include information from your article. Information from the article should appear more than once in your essay and it should be connected to your points. When you use information from an article include the author or article title in your text. For example, you could write- “According to Anderson…” or “During the Vietnam War songs reflected anti-war sentiments (Anderson, p. 52)”.
Include a full citation of your article at the end of your essay.
Review the ” Grammatical Pointers” and use them to write your essay. I WILL DEDUCT POINTS FOR INCORRECT GRAMMAR, SPELLING, AND FORMAT!
Submit your essay as an attachment in the Assignment Folder by Sunday of Week 6.
Your essay should be a minimum of 2 full pages of text, in 12 point Times New Roman font, and double spaced.
Your essay should address the following:
1. Briefly describe each song and the event or social movement it depicts.
2. Choose a few points in each song to compare and contrast.
3. Use the article as background information or to support your arguments.
