The essay should first assert an argument/thesis and then support and develop that thesis by considering:
1) textural evidence (direct quotes, themes, motifs, allusions, images,etc)
2)where relevant, the conditions in which the literary work was produced (historical facts, the authors life, the cultural climate. etc)
3) outclass discussion and relevant scholarship (DO NOT USE OUSIDE RESEARCH)
