Management Development

Paper instructions:
Complete one of the following self-assessments:
Team Roles Preference Scale
OR
What is Your Preferred Conflict Handling Style?
Note: You are only required to do one of the assessments. But if you wish to do both, you may do so in order to learn more about yourself. However, you need only write up one of the assessments for this assignment.
(Optional) Ask three to four people who have worked with you in a team situation to identify which of the five team roles they have observed you displaying while in a team situation.
Create a document that addresses each of the following based on your self-assessment scores:
If you took the Team Roles Preference Scale assessment:
How can your preferred team role help or hinder your work in a team in each of the five stages of team development?
Determine two or three ways to improve the areas where your preferred team role may hinder your work.
(Optional) If you asked other people to identify the role that they have observed you display in team settings, does this align with your assessment? Is there a gap? Are there ways to change your behavior to close this gap?
If you took the What is Your Preferred Conflict Handling Style? assessment:
Identify the strengths and weaknesses of your conflict handling style.
Does the preferred way you handle conflict have an impact on your role as a manager? Why or why not?
Determine a conflict situation for each of the five conflict handling styles and explain which style would be the best to use.
Identify methods and/or techniques for you to improve your ability to use the conflict handling styles that were not your preferred style.
Reflect on the results of your self-assessment and the answers to the questions. Connect the results to the roles, skills, and functions of a manager.
Develop a goal for a role, skill, or function you would like to develop further that will help you become a better manager.
Develop an action plan for each of your goals. Your action plan must provide specific steps that you will take to accomplish the goal and a measurement of success for each step. Also list the obstacles you may encounter trying to achieve your goal. Use the following format to document your action plan:

Attach your action plan as an appendix to your document.
Post the suggestions you had to strengthen your weak areas to the discussion topic, “Ways to Improve – Week 4″.
Read the postings by your classmates. You may discover other ways to strengthen your weak areas and want to use them in Plan (Mgt Dev).
